Thaipusam is an annual Hindu festival primarily celebrated by the Tamil community on the full moon during the Tamil month of 'Thai', which falls around mid-January to mid-February.

Thaipusam marks Lord Murugan’s birthday, and it commemorates the occasion when Goddess Parvati gave Lord Murugan a spear ‘Vel’ to vanquish the evil demon named ‘Soorapadman’.

In Malaysia, the festival is normally celebrated on a grand scale at the Subramaniar Swamy Temple, Batu Caves, Selangor, and Arulmigu Balathandayuthapani Temple in Penang. It is also a major tourist attraction with foreigners fascinated by the way the festival is celebrated.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our Hindu friends and family a very Happy Thaipusam. May all of you be blessed with overflowing happiness and prosperity on this special festival.
