WISDOM WEDNESDAY : BUSANA TRADISIONAL ETNIK SABAH

Assalamualaikum dan salam sejahtera.

Pada ‘Wisdom Wednesday’ kali ini, kami ingin berkongsi mengenai busana etnik kaum di Sabah.

Penduduk Sabah terdiri daripada pelbagai suku kaum. Antaranya adalah Kadazandusun, Bajau, Murut, Kedayan, Bisaya, Irranun, Rungus, Kimarang, Kwijau, Lundayeh, Ubian, Binadan, Orang Sungai, Tatana, Tagaas, Brunei, Suluk dan lain-lain.

Perbezaan antara berbagai-bagai suku kaum tersebut adalah ketara terutama sekali dari segi bahasa, agama, adat istiadat, corak dan pegangan hidup termasuklah pakaian tradisi mereka. Antaranya adalah seperti yang berikut:

Pakaian istiadat masyarakat Kadazan dari Penampang. Lelakinya memakai baju gaung, seluar souva, bengkung toogot dan pakaian kepala yang disebut siga. Wanita memakai baju pendek sinuangga, kain labuh tetapi dan selendang batik dilengkapi tali pinggang himpogot.

Pakaian Adat suku kaum Murut. Lelaki memakai jaket barbaru dan cawat dari kulit kayu puputul yang dilukis dengan motif dari manik atau warna. Perhiasan kepalanya tupi sinulatan juga dari kulit kayu. Wanita menggayakan pakaian pinongkolo dari kain kapas berhiaskan motif sarat dari manik-manik berwarna-warni. Perhiasan diri juga dari manik seperti rantai rarangkol dan hiasan kepala salupai.

Pakaian tradisional suku Kaum Bajau. Wanita menggayakan blaus badu sampit dan kain sarung olos berangkit, perhiasan leher mandapun dan perhiasan kepala sarempak. Lelaki Bajau menggayakan baju potongan Cekak Musang, seluar, samping dan destar.

In this edition of Wisdom Wednesday, we would like to share about traditional costumes in Sabah.

Sabah is well-known for its diverse ethnic groups such as Kadazandusun, Bajau, Murut, Kedayan, Bisaya, Irranun, Rungus, Kimarang, Kwijau, Lundayeh, Ubian, Binadan, Orang Sungai, Tatana, Tagaas, Brunei, Suluk and more.

These different ethnic groups are often separated by their languages, religions, customs, and cultures which include their unique traditional costumes such as the following:

The custom clothing of Kadazan people can further be divided according to regions. But the most common Kadazan community from Penampang has their men wearing baju gaung, seluar souva, bengkung toogot and a headgear known as siga. While the women would often wear baju pendek sinuangga, kain labuh tetapi and selendang batik complemented with the himpogot belt.

Murut men wear barbaru jacket and loincloth from puputul tree bark imprinting the motives from colorful beads. Headgear know as tupi sinulatan is also made from the tree bark. The women are dressed up in pinongkolo made from cotton fabric also imprinting the motives from colorful beads. Other accessories are rarangkol necklace and headgear salupai made from beads.

For the traditional Bajau ethnic, the women would dress up in badu sampit blouse and kain sarung olos berangkit. Other accessories are neck accessories called mandapun and the headgear sarempak. Whereas for Bajau men they would wear the traditional clothes such as baju potongan Cekak Musang, pants, samping dan dastar.
